Toothless and the Tooth Fairy!

Today was a really big day for Anthony.  A few weeks ago we discovered that he had an adult tooth coming in behind his baby teeth, creating a 2nd row of teeth (affectionately referred to as his shark tooth).  Around that time I posted about his shark tooth and shared this picture that was taken on August 1st -

About a week later, tooth number 2 broke through, again, right behind his baby teeth, leaving him with not one, but two shark teeth.

Here is what his teeth looked like a week and a half ago - (those baby teeth would NOT wiggle!)

Today we went to the dentist and took this cute little smile from this -

Then tonight we pulled out this fun little tooth pillow (made by Grandma!) and left two little teeth for the Tooth Fairy to find – there should be a happy little boy in the morning!

Oh, and guess what?!? It’s still a cute little smile!!!  Love you Anthony!!!

Lake Time!

A few weeks ago we enjoyed some time with good friends at one of their parent’s homes on a lake in Wisconsin.  We managed to squeeze a lot of fun into a short amount of time – swimming in the lake, paddle boating, playing outside, kayaking, a boat ride, swinging, drinks in the rain, and attending the local community celebration/dance.

We were there to celebrate this cute little girl's 5th Birthday!

Here is one of our god-daughters – isn’t she cute?!?

Anthony thought he was hot stuff driving the boat!  Such a crazy smile!

This swing was a big hit – you would think with 12 oak trees in our backyard, we would have at least one good branch, but so far, no luck finding one!

Even my hubby got in on the lake fun – check out that form!  HA!

Kayaks!

A few weeks ago we purchased kayaks.  We were going camping that day and picked them up to take camping with us.  Our campsite had a little creek right by it so Anthony could kayak up and down the creek.

As you can see – Anthony had a blast!

Laundry Room Updated

When I first started this blog, it was my goal to use this blog to document our home and the changes we make, as well as random doings of our family.  I have managed to post a lot about our family and the changes to our basement (want to see?  Click on the "basement" label on the right side of the screen) but I have not done much to document the rest of our home.  So, it's time!  Here's a peek at our laundry room!

In an effort to be more green and update our laundry room, we purchased a new washer and dryer – front loaders.  Of course once we set them up, I knew that we immediately needed stands to raise them up higher. At $200 per stand, we had said “No thanks!” when we purchased the washer and dryer.  Initially I started re-thinking that decision, but then I was able to convince my hand hubby to build stands - assuming he could build something that would be strong enough to support the washer and dryer and still have storage inside.

We had no idea at the time that this would be one of those projects that led to another project, which led to another project, which led to another project... The work in this room just kept going and going.

Once the stands were built and we put the new washer and dryer up on top, it took just one load of clothes to know that we needed to add something to stabilize the shake from the washer.  Hubby found some type of shock absorber pads to put under the feet of the washer and dryer and they worked beautifully to control the shake.  The problem was that they raised the washer and dryer up an extra 1.5 inches, so they no longer fit under the cupboard above.  UGH!  This meant that we could either rebuild the just custom built washer/dryer stands or raise the cabinets approx 1.5 inches.  We opted to move the cabinets, which led to taking down and raising 2 cabinets, which led to needing to paint the laundry room.  Like I said, one thing led to another…

At least we picked a bright and HAPPY color!

You can see the frames of the stands below.  They remained open for awhile, during the construction of the drawers.  In this photo the drawer slides have been installed, so the drawers went in shortly after.

For awhile we put the same “stuff” back in and lived with the room like this... Blah...

The best part of the laundry room was eventually pulling out some of the Coca-Cola products I had collected throughout my teenage/college/adult years to decorate!  Plus I was given a few new Coca-Cola metal signs as Christmas gifts this past year, so they just added to the décor.

The paintings are oil paintings that were painted by my Grandmother – and the funky white thing below them is a collapsible drying rack that I found at The Container Store (it works great!).

It’s a busy little space – color wise and traffic wise, but it works for us!

Hubby did a nice job building the drawer/stands for the washer and dryer, right? His father built all of the cabinets in our home and hubby did a great job building these stands to match.  I am lucky to have such talent in the family! This project took much longer than we had planned for, but it is so much nicer to do laundry now!

Pulling Teeth and the Tooth Fairy

Pretty sure we are going to be meeting the Tooth Fairy soon!  Also pretty sure the tooth fairy is going to be paying up for multiple teeth….

2012-08-01 (1)

We have been joking that Anthony must be part shark, as he now has 2 teeth making a 2nd row of teeth on the bottom.  When I called his dentist (a pediatric dentist) they advised lots of wiggling of the baby teeth and scheduled an appointment to have the baby teeth pulled if they do not come out on their own.  We have been wiggling and wiggling and wiggling and those baby teeth just will NOT move.  Oh boy.  Lucky for us, we have just over a week to keep wiggling!

What is the going rate for a tooth?  This will be the Tooth Fairy’s first stop at our house!

Wisconsin Dells Vacation

A few weeks ago we squeezed in a quick trip to the Wisconsin Dells for some family fun.  We took our camper and had no problems camping 10 minutes outside of the Dells and driving in for fun activities.

I grew up just over an hour from the Dells and somehow this was my very first time on the Wisconsin Ducks.  We had a blast!

Wisconsin Ducks

Another first… This was the first time for all of us to see the Tommy Bartlett ski show.  One of my former students moved to Wisconsin Dells right after she graduated to be a part of the ski show, so it was fun to finally see what the fuss was about!

We spent a FULL day at Mt. Olympus enjoying the waterpark and go-carts.  Anthony was able to go on most of the water rides – at least enough to keep him happy!  They had kiddie go-carts that he could drive and he also liked riding/racing with us on the big go-carts.  So much fun until some teenagers ruined our last go-cart ride…

Mt Olympus

Last stop before we left town?  Pirate’s Cove for an extremely HOT game of mini-golf.  We are not a golfing family, but we had fun!  At least I sure did after I won and got a free dish of ice cream!
